In April 2016, I quit my job and, rather than look for another one, I decided to look into buying my own business. One in particular caught my eye; a retro video game store that had over a decade of profitable operations. Somewhat timidly, I sent out a request for more information. Fortunately, Andrew Rogerson was representing the business and quickly replied.
I had thought about owning my own business for many years but never moved forward. I felt that I didn’t know enough and wasn’t in a position to take the financial risk. If Andrew hadn’t been the broker for the business, it is rather unlikely that I would be the proud business owner that I am today.
From our very first conversations, Andrew was extremely helpful, professional, and patient. I have an MBA, but the process of purchasing a business revealed just how much I didn’t learn in school. Without fail, Andrew made sure that I was comfortable with each step of the process. His deep knowledge and clear communication gave me the confidence that I needed to keep moving forward.
Andrew also proved to be a very effective mediator. More than once, he demonstrated his skill at tactfully stepping in, diffusing tensions, and ensuring that the deal remains a win for all parties involved. Without him taking this role, I can only imagine that our final meeting to sign over the business would have had far fewer smiles.
I have never worked with a business broker before Andrew, but I doubt that any bring the combination of knowledge, patience, and genuine desire to help that Andrew brings. If you are selling a business, or in need of any of the other valuable business services that Andrew can provide, I highly recommend him. If you are buying a business, you can’t get any luckier than I did by working with him.
Sincerely,
Terry Watts
